There are openings for more teams for this year’s Starke County Relay for Life event. It will be held June 7 at the Starke County Fairgrounds in Hamlet with opening ceremonies scheduled for 6 p.m. that evening.
Last year, over $56,000 was raised and Relay officials are hoping to match or exceed that goal this year. In order to reach that goal, they need to help in the fight against cancer.
Planning committees are waiting to hear from you. Teams can be made up of coworkers, friends and family members. Many businesses, schools and organizations gather together to build teams and help raise money for this worthy cause.
If you are interested in starting or joining a team, log onto www.RelayForLife.org/starkecountyin. You can also log onto the website to make a donation if you aren’t able to be on a team.
Several fundraisers have been announced. The Hawg Wild DJs Relay for Life team will have a “Ladies Day” event on Saturday, April 13 from 1–4 p.m. at the Knox VFW Post on South Heaton Street. Purses, dress shoes, jewelry, scarves and more will be available for purchase and proceeds will benefit the Relay for Life event. Snacks will be provided, makeup experts will give advice and massages will be offered.
Also, the staff at the Henry F. Schricker Public Library in Knox are collecting donations of $1 and with that donation your name will be displayed on a foot card that will be in a display case in support of Relay.
