Absentee Voting Off to a Good Start

The first day of absentee voting went pretty smoothly yesterday, according to voting officials in the Starke County clerk’s office.

Twenty people voted absentee and 10 people asked for mail ballots on Monday. Absentee voting is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 4 p.m. CT at the Starke County Courthouse until May 3. You may also vote absentee on Saturday, April 27 and May 4 from 8 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 4 p.m., and Monday, May 6 from 8 a.m. to Noon. The polls are open May 7 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Center, California, and Washington Townships.

This is a special election for voters in the Knox Community School District and voters will be approving or rejecting a referendum asking for a slight tax increase in order to fund a proposed construction project at the 60-year-old Palmer Wing at the Knox Elementary School.  The project would greatly improve conditions for students and staff in that part of the building.
