The Knox Chapter of the Psi Iota Xi Sorority will be sponsoring a spring craft and vendor show at the community building in Washington Township on Saturday, April 6. The event will take place 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. CT, when Tammy Fletcher, chapter president, said the sorority will be coordinating a fun, family-oriented springtime activity that will include traditional vendors of spices, handbags, candles, jewelry, and all kinds of other items.
“There are various vendors and artisans, craftsmen, around the area. We have different ones than we had in the fall, some the same, some similar, but some very different ones. Just about anything you can imagine: people that do homemade crafts to food vendors to candy, fudge, Tupperware – there’s all kinds of different vendors, jewelry makers, all kinds of things,” she said.
Fletcher said the event is being held to raise funds for their scholarships that go to the three county high schools, as well as their new venture: giving out a scholarship to the Community Foundation to support their preschool project.
Psi Iota Xi is a nonprofit philanthropic organization, and Fletcher said the sorority performs many services for Starke County, such as the Young Artist’s Conference each spring and the Healthy Baby Contest at the Hamlet 4-H Fair. The group also designates charities for every business meeting, such as the Humane Society, women’s shelter, food pantry, Riley’s Children’s Hospital or Relay for Life, and the sisters in the sorority makes donations each month to worthy area causes.
All proceeds from the craft and vendor show will go toward the scholarships. The event will be held at the Washington Township Community Building at 20 N. State Road 23 in Knox.
