Get your tackle box and pole and get ready to head out on the water – Free Fishing Day is coming up this weekend, giving anglers the perfect opportunity to get out to the water and cast out their lines. Free Fishing Days on June 1–2 are the last of four Free Fishing Days offered this year, the first of which was April 20. Indiana’s adult residents do not need a fishing license or a trout/salmon stamp to fish public waters in the state during Free Fishing Day.
DNR Go FishIN Coordinator Clint Kowalik encourages fishing enthusiasts to take advantage of the event and head out to the water, bring a friend, or take your family to a local city park pond.
Youth ages 17 and younger are exempt from purchasing a fishing license, but on May 18 and June 1-2, all Hoosiers do not need a fishing license or a trout/salmon stamp to fish public Hoosier waters.
For those who aren’t sure where to go to cast their line, you may not have to travel far; the new Go FishIN in the City program is providing educational events and quality fishing opportunities at several city park ponds across the state.
