Blue Star Mothers Raising Funds for Operation Care Package

Sandra Boldt, president of the St. Joe Valley Blue Star Mothers, recently announced that the organization is once again holding events in Starke County in an effort to garner support for Operation Care Package, an event that Bold said involves packing care packages to be sent overseas to deployed troops. Last year, Boldt said the organization sent 1300 care packages to soldiers, and they’re looking to do it all over again this year.

Boldt said St. Joe Valley Blue Star Mothers is a not-for-profit service and support organization for the military, their families and veterans. The organization will hold a bake sale at Bailey’s Discount Center in North Judson from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sept. 7, followed by an opening ceremony at the Knox VFW at noon on Sept. 8. On Sept. 13, the organization will hold a chicken and noodle dinner from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the VFW.

On Sept. 13, the organization will accept dropped-off donations for military care packages from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Knox VFW, and a blood drive will also be held from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The South Bend Medical Foundation will donate $5 to the Blue Star Mothers chapter for each person that is successfully able to donate blood.

All of the funds collected will help to purchase additional items for the care packages and help to cover the thousands of dollars it takes to pay for the postage to send the care packages overseas.
