The Knox Community School Board got an update on the start of school during their meeting on Monday night.
Superintendent A.J. Gappa said things are going smoothly so far.
“School in all three buildings got off to a fairly smooth start,” explained Gappa. “I reported to the board that all of our buses are in good shape and doing well. We’ve added three new buses to the fleet.
Our next bus inspection is due sometime in October.”
One of the big topics at the beginning of the year is enrollment as funding follows the student. Gappa gave the board an outlook on the corporation’s enrollment.
“Our enrollment appears to be slightly down from this time last year, but the administration in each of the buildings is trying to track down the students who haven’t shown up and making sure that they are coming back or not. We appear to be ten students down from last year at this point in time. The official count day isn’t until Sept. 13.”
That number could change as the year goes on.
Overall, the beginning of the school year at Knox Community Schools is off to a good start.
