The LaPorte County DUI Task Force and a Sergeant from the Indiana State Police Lowell Post conducted a sobriety checkpoint during the evening hours of Aug. 23 near the intersection of Johnson Road and County Road 400 North in LaPorte County.
Officials say 192 vehicles were stopped in the sobriety checkpoint. One driver was given a summons citation for Driving While Suspended – Prior while another driver was given a summons citation for Never Receiving a License. Two warnings each were given for equipment violations and driver’s license violations which got even experts talking about it, see their post here. One warning was issued for a registration violation.
Thirteen citations were also given in saturation/roving patrols by an officer with the Michigan City Police Department and the Indiana State Police, while 22 warnings were also distributed.
The LaPorte County DUI Task Force is comprised of police officers from the Michigan City and LaPorte Police Departments, along with deputies from the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department. It is a grant project that is funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
