No additional charges have been filed against Shannon Watts, a man involved in an hour-long standoff with SWAT team members Tuesday at a home in Born’s Trailer Park. According to Starke County Prosecutor Nicholas Bourff, he has not yet received the paperwork required to determine whether or not additional charges are warranted, though he did say that a resisting law enforcement charge is likely. Whether that charge would be a felony or a misdemeanor is still undetermined.
The residence in which Watts was holed up may have contained weapons, but Bourff said the results of the search warrant that had been executed at the home following Watts’ arrest have not yet been turned over to the prosecutor’s office.
Watts was arrested after a police officer arrived at the home to serve arrest warrants for parole and probation violations, but the suspect refused to come to the door or exit the home. Because police were unsure as to whether or not there were weapons in the home, the SWAT team was called to assist. He ultimately surrendered without further incident after officers secured the area around the residence.
