Travelers on county roads 600 East and 200 East, both south of State Road 8 in Starke County, will have to find an alternate route of travel if they need to drive over the railroad crossings. According to highway superintendent Rik Ritzler, both of these crossings will be closed for the duration of this week and are expected to open before Monday, but there are no official detours in place.
Ritzler said the stretch of road to be closed on County Road 200 East affects no residences, because no one lives on that stretch of the road. There is also no detour in place for County Road 600 East, so plan your trip according and find an alternate route.
Norfolk Southern is closing the railroad crossings to perform repairs near the rails. Ritzler explained that the County Road 600 East crossing has a very large pothole – nearly a foot deep and over two feet wide – that needs repaired, and the railroad company has indicated that the crossings will be closed for the week.
