Plymouth Man Arrested after Allegedly Battering a State Trooper

A Plymouth man was arrested Thursday night after he reportedly headbutted an Indiana State Trooper.

A trooper with the Indiana State Police Bremen Post conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on 6A Road near Michigan Road for several traffic violations. The trooper noticed the odor of alcohol and the passenger, 33-year-old Travis Lee Simpson, told the trooper that he had been drinking.

While the trooper was explaining the driver’s ticket to her through the passenger side window, the officer reportedly noticed marijuana residue on Simpson’s shirt. He also noticed rolling papers inside the vehicle. Simpson was questioned and placed into handcuffs. Marijuana was reportedly found in Simpson’s pocket.

While questioning Simpson about the marijuana, Simpson headbutted the trooper and yelled threats. He was taken to the ground and taken into custody. The trooper and Simpson were treated at the scene.

Travis Simpson was arrested on preliminary felony charges of Battery, Intimidation and Resisting Law Enforcement, plus misdemeanor charges of Public Intoxication and Possession of Marijuana. He is being held in the Marshall County Jail.
