A preliminary charge of Criminal Reckless with a Firearm against 48-year-old Warren Chapman has been filed by the North Judson Police Department, but the report and evidence will be delivered to Starke County Prosecutor Nicholas Bourff Friday for review. Bourff may choose to file formal charges when he reviews the entire case.
Chapman was reportedly extremely intoxicated Wednesday evening and started firing a gun inside his residence at 305 E. Talmer Ave. in North Judson. Police swarmed the residence and Chapman barricaded himself in the basement of the home. Firefighters barricaded the streets for the safety of residents and the Starke and Pulaski SWAT team was called in to diffuse the situation. SWAT team officers were able to enter the home and Chapman surrendered. He was then taken to the Starke County Jail and booked on a preliminary charge of Criminal Recklessness with a Firearm.
No injuries were reported.
An initial hearing for Chapman will be held soon in Starke Circuit Court.
