The Starke County Council will meet Monday night to discuss a number of agenda items, including a resolution determining the need for the jail project and an ordinance from the county council pledging additional EDIT tax funds in order to pay for the lease rentals.
The council will also discuss adoption of the North Judson-San Pierre School Corporation’s 2014 budget, and will hold a public hearing for the 2014 budget for Starke County. The approval of another budget, that of the Solid Waste Department, will also be discussed.
The council will also discuss the creation of a Parks and Recreation Board, an idea prompted by a number of issues at the Bass Lake Beach and Campground. The Starke County Commissioners have sent the council a favorable recommendation to create the board, which would oversee the beach and other non-municipal public parks.
Finally, the council will also discuss a request for appropriation from the Riverboat Wagering Tax to the sheriff’s pension contribution, and requests for transfers from the highway department and county extension office.
The meeting will take place at 5:30 p.m. in the commissioner’s meeting room in the Starke County Annex Building.
