The West Central School Board had a hearing Thursday night on the 2014 budget, the Capital Projects Plan and the Bus Replacement Plan.
Superintendent Charles Mellon said the budget was advertised and now the board is ready for the next step.
“At next month’s meeting, we will have the board approve the budget and send it to the state. We’ll let them work their magic on it and let us know how much money we’re going to be receiving,” Mellon said.
The board also approved teacher contracts.
“This is the fourth year of a five-year agreement with the teachers. So, we’re locked into language and salary on that. That’s pretty much a formality. Now we send that contract to the Department of Education,” Mellon explained.
Down the road, Mellon said, they will work on the new compensation model and that can take place anytime as the contract goes through August 2015. If both sides agree to organize a new contract and compensation, that could happen next year.
