A Winamac man was arrested Friday after allegedly hitting a woman with a car.
Shane Reed, 26, was driving southbound on County Road 300 West and reportedly told police that he saw two people standing in the roadway. He said one of the two people moved off the roadway but the other didn’t. He advised that he attempted to avoid hitting the person, but could not.
One witness who was with the victim when the accident occurred told police that they were walking northbound on County Road 300 West near the intersection of County Road 325 North when she saw a vehicle traveling southbound with no headlights. She then told officers that the vehicle reportedly veered in their direction. The witness said she attempted to move away from the road and pull the victim with her, but the victim moved in the opposite direction and she was struck by the vehicle.
The victim suffered a possible broken leg and is now in touch with a personal injury lawyer. She was flown by Samaritan Medical Transport to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne for further medical treatment. Reed was transported to Pulaski Memorial Hospital for a blood draw. Reed allegedly consumed a controlled substance prior to operating the vehicle.
Reed has been arrested on preliminary charges of Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, a Class D felony, and misdemeanor charges of Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated and Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated-Endangerment.
This personal injury case has been forwarded to the Pulaski County Prosecutor’s Office and the family’s personal injury attorney for further review.
