The Winamac Town Board this week received an estimate on the repairs of the Winamac Municipal Pool, and according to Town Manager Jim Conner, it might be a better investment to simply build a new one. Conner said the estimate came back from the Spear Corporation at $513,741 to repair the pool – a hefty price tag spurred by the fact that the pool is 50 years old.
Because the pool is half a century old, once the repairs are underway, everything that is not up to code about it must be updated. Conner said requirements for such pools have changed quite a bit since the pool was last overhauled, and with so many changes that would need to be made, the cost of repairs skyrocketed.
Conner said they will now be looking into the cost of building a new pool, as spending so much money on repairing the pool might not be their best option. He said it might be a better investment to build a new one.
