A Winamac woman is alive this morning thanks to the quick response from a Winamac Police Officer on patrol. Mark Hoffman was southbound on U.S. 35 just before midnight last night and saw a vehicle on fire near County Road 50 East. Hoffman called the Pulaski County Dispatch Center and requested fire and EMS assistance and approached the SUV, where he saw an unconscious woman inside. Hoffman couldn’t get in through the driver’s side because of the flames. He was able to enter the Jeep through the passenger side and pull the woman to safety. Tracy Redelman, 47, of Winamac, was taken to Pulaski Memorial Hospital. According to the police report, she did not complain of any injuries. The deputy from the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office who investigated the crash says Redelman would not be alive had it not been for Hoffman’s quick actions. The cause of the wreck remains under investigation.
