Another day of classroom instruction was lost at our local schools yesterday as a severe winter storm entered the area with a vengeance.
Freezing rain and snow prompted local school officials to cancel school and plan for yet another makeup day.
Eastern Pulaski School Superintendent Dan Foster said the school board already has set make up days for previous canceled days of school.
“The day before spring break, and then we added Good Friday as a make up day. Those were already built in and then if we missed any more it would be tagged on at the end of the year. Right now, this day will tagged on Monday, June 2,” explained Foster.
He’s hoping that graduation will stay where it is on the school calendar.
“Graduation is still going to be held on May 30. I did tell the board that I am investigating the possibility of perhaps an e-learning day for seniors only. I’m sure I’m not alone in not really relishing the thought of having graduation on Friday, May 30 and then asking seniors to come back on Monday, June 2. Of course if that HAD to happen, the kids would not receive diplomas that night. Right now we’re trying to hold graduation where it is.”
