The second annual Starke County Relay for Life Pageant is quickly approaching, planned for April 13 at 2 p.m. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Knox in the family life center. Applications are currently being accepted and can be picked up at Demotte State Bank or by emailing pmdonald@netdsb.com or cmiller@netdsb.com.
A winner will be crowned in each of four age groups to represent their title and participate at the Starke County Relay for Life Event at the Hamlet fairgrounds. All Starke County residents ages 1-18 can participate in the event, with age groups ranging from Teeny Tiny Miss, ages 1 to 3; Tiny Miss, ages 4 to 7; Little Miss, ages 8 to 12; and Miss, ages 13 to 18.
Entry fees are $30 per contestant, and the team is still seeking sponsorships and donations to cover expenses. Anyone interested can call Pamela McDonald at (574) 806-1143 or Candice Miller at (574) 806-2901.
Last year’s inaugural Relay for Life Pageant sponsored by DeMotte State Bank surpassed their every hope, according to Co-director Pamela McDonald. She said with the 33 contestants that turned out, and the more than 200 attendees, the event raised more than their goal of $1500, and the success has pushed them to hold the pageant again this year due to the event’s overwhelming achievement.
