The Pulaski County Council approved a loan to the Town of Monterey for its waste water treatment facility upgrade.
Pulaski County Community Development Commission Executive Director Nathan Origer asked the council if they would approve a $10,000 loan with zero percent interest to help the town complete its quest in obtaining money for 20 percent match for the $205,000 project.
Monterey Town Board President Jim Fleury explained that the town is overhauling its waste water and collection systems to bring them up to code, update technology and operate more efficiently. The town needs $40,000 for a match for the project, $20,000 of which they have. The board has been searching for funding options.
A $10,000 donation was made and now the Pulaski County Council approved a loan of $10,000 to complete the need. Auditor Sheila Garling will send out paperwork to complete the loan and the project can move closer to fruition. It will be decided later how the money will be paid back.
Fleury said the plant will be like-new when complete.
