A number of charitable organizations are on the receiving end of more than $40,000 in grants from the Starke County Community Foundation. The gifts are made possible through the foundation’s endowment fund, which is supported by gifts to the SCCF. The money is invested. Each year some of the interest goes back into the fund to help it grow, while some is given locally in the form of scholarships and grants.
This year’s grant recipients include Starke County 4-H; Society of St. Vincent de Paul; Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum; Coalition Against Domestic Abuse; Starke County Library; North Judson United Methodist Church Trustees; S.S. Cyril and Methodius Parish; Community Services of Starke County; the Starke County Humane Society; Turkey Tracks Hunt Eric Corey Foundation; Marshall-Starke Development; North Judson Park Beautification Committee; North Judson-Wayne Township Public Library; Starke County Historical Society; St. Peter Lutheran School; SCILL Center; and Ancilla College.
The Starke County Community Foundation has awarded more than $2.7 million in grants and scholarships since it was established in 1996. As of March 2014, the SCCF had more than $6.4 million in assets.
