A Westville man was arrested on Tuesday after he fled police in a vehicle.
LaPorte Police Department officers initiated a traffic stop on Boston Street near the Norfolk Southern railroad crossing near Factory Street. The officers recognized James D. Brinsfield, 38, who was wanted on a charge of dealing in a schedule I controlled substance (heroin) as a Class A felony.
Brinsfield fled from the scene and police pursued him. Brinsfield eventually crashed his vehicle and was taken into custody.
In addition to his warrant, Brinsfield was booked into the LaPorte County Jail on preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement as a Level 6 felony and reckless driving as a Class B misdemeanor. He remains in the LaPorte County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
This arrest is the result of ongoing investigations by the LaPorte Metro Operations Unit involving the distribution of narcotics and illegal drugs in and around the LaPorte area.
