Crops took a hit during straight-line winds that wreaked havoc in the area on Monday night.
According to Purdue Extension Agriculture and Natural Resources Educator Chad Rushing, some fields in the northern part of Pulaski County, specifically north of State Road 14, sustained spotty damage.
Starke County corn crops also sustained heavy damage. Rushing said he’d know more by next week about the impact the corn crop losses will have on yields.
Marshall County EMA Director Clyde Avery said several area corn fields were laid down due to storms Monday night. Farmers will need to notate all damage and notify their insurance agents to file claims.
Luckily, no injuries were reported from the fierce storms that ripped through Northern Indiana Monday night. Power outages were reported and uprooted trees and limbs were found scattered in yards and in roads. Reports of trees falling on houses and cars were made to emergency dispatchers as well as power lines tangled in tree limbs. Electric crews continue to get service to all affected.
