Starke County’s new EMS director will be driving one of the recently retired sheriff’s department patrol cars if the commissioners decide a county-owned vehicle is a necessary part of fulfilling those job duties.
Former director Paul Matthewson was assigned a retired four-wheel drive because that’s what the county had available when he asked for a car to drive between the Grovertown, Knox and North Judson ambulance garages. The commissioners voted Monday to give that vehicle to the county planning commission to replace the worn-out car Terry Stephenson is currently using. Sheriff Oscar Cowen is replacing two police cars this year. First the county highway department will check them over and make sure they are ready for the road before they are issued to other departments.
