LaPorte Police Cracking Down on Drunk Drivers

The LaPorte Police Department is getting an early start on Labor Day traffic enforcement. Starting today and continuing through Sept. 1 officers will be taking part in a “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” blitz. The national campaign will pair increased public awareness with high-visibility enforcement.

Captain Tom Heath says officers will be arresting anyone who is caught driving under the influence – no tolerance, no excuses. He encourages party-goers to plan ahead before celebrating and designate a driver, take a taxi or use public transportation. Heath adds drunk driving not only dangerous and potentially fatal, it’s also expensive. He says an arrest can mean time in jail, loss of a driver’s license and the financial expense of hiring an attorney. Car insurance premiums also go up if you are arrested for driving under the influence.
