The Starke County Commissioners will get their monthly management report for the Bass Lake Beach and Campground when they meet this evening. Manager Richard Callahan and his attorney Dave Wallsmith are first on the agenda for tonight’s 7 p.m. meeting at the Starke County Annex Building. The commissioners voted recently to limit camping to 15 days instead of allowing season-long leasing of campsites.
That’s consistent with the law under which the state deeded the property to the county. Additionally, year-round camping and storage of campers and other items will no longer be allowed after the amenities close for the season. Several users of the amenities attended the Aug. 4 county commissioners meeting. They were encouraged to return on the 18th, since the matter is on the agenda then.
The Starke County Council is also meeting this evening at 5:30 p.m. Items on their agenda include a proposed amendment to the police pension plan, declaration of county tax rates and consideration of transfer requests from the auditor, veteran’s service officer and commissioners. Both meetings take place in the first floor meeting room at the county annex building.
