In a technical alliance with Team Penske, Wood Brothers Racing officials announced Thursday that Ryan Blaney, 20, will race in 12 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races for Wood Brothers Racing in 2015.
Blaney will drive the iconic No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford beginning with the Daytona 500. Las Vegas, Texas, Talladega, Charlotte, Michigan, Indianapolis, and other tracks will accompany the schedule.
Before that, Blaney will practice and qualify in the car this Friday as this year’s driver, Trevor Bayne, will be practicing in his Nationwide Series car at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course before assuming the seat for Sunday’s Sprint Cup race.
Blaney has shown he’s got the talent. He made his Sprint Cup Series debut for Team Penske at Kansas Speedway. He placed 27th in the race, but performed well throughout the event. He’s run several races for Team Penske in the Nationwide Series where he’s had one win. He’s been the full-time driver for Brad Keselowski Racing in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series for the past two seasons where he now sits atop the standings.
In addition to the No. 21 assignment in 2015, Blaney will drive for Team Penske in the Nationwide Series.
Great things are coming for Ryan Blaney who continues as the third generation race car driver in his family.
