Starke County officials have funds available to shred government documents a committee has decided no longer need to be stored after action this week by the county council. They approved a transfer of up to $10,000 from the commissioners budget for that purpose. They stress that entire amount of money may not need to be spent for document disposal.
The vendor the commissioners have selected is charging by the pound for the service, and several skids of documents have been approved for shredding. That process is scheduled to occur on Wednesday, Oct. 1.
The council also approved a transfer of $800 from the auditor’s budget to pay for a laptop computer and software for the county veterans service officer. The state will reimburse the county for that purchase with funds from a federal grant. Service officer Terry Turner says that money should be returned to the county within four to six weeks.
