The Starke County Sheriff’s Department is set to make offers of employment to two deputies. The county commissioners reviewed the merit board’s prioritized recommendations of the five applicants during an executive session meeting. During a brief special-called meeting afterward they voted to extend conditional offers of employment to Richard Simpson and John Page. If they accept, they will be hired based on passing a drug screening and psychological evaluation. The commissioners selected Seth Johnson as an alternate should there be another opening between now and Dec. 31st of this year.
