The Starke County Park Board is two members away from being populated. Starke Circuit Judge Kim Hall is responsible for appointing a Democrat and a Republican to the five-member board. He advised WKVI News he is still reviewing the qualifications of potential members and expects to make a decision soon.
The Starke County Council this week appointed Republican Debbie Mix and Democrat Rosemary Rose to the panel. The commissioners named Marsha Bedrock to the board.
Once it’s populated, the board will oversee and promote parks, open spaces and other recreational lands owned by the county. These include the Starke County Forest and Bass Lake Beach and Campground. The commissioners have opted to let the park board decide whether seasonal campsite leases should be allowed at Bass Lake.
