Construction of the new Starke County Sheriff’s Office and Detention Center is still on schedule to wrap up next spring. Information shared with the Starke County Building Corporation indicates the metal addition to the rear of the existing building on State Road 8 east of Knox is 80-percent finished.
Workers are on track to add the roof to that structure within four to six weeks. Right now they’re finishing up the interior wiring and other detail work that needs to be done before the roof can be put on. Paving at the site across from Sabre Manufacturing is also on schedule to be done within the next month to month-and-a-half. The project engineer advises rain has not caused any problems because the sandy soil at the site drains very well. Commissioner Kathy Norem is the president of the building corporation. She expressed a desire during yesterday’s meeting to offer public tours of the new facility after it is complete but before inmates are moved out there.
