Starke County Chamber Hosting Nonpartisan Meet the Candidates Night

Starke County voters can meet candidates for federal, state and local office tomorrow evening at the Nancy J. Dembowski Community Center in downtown Knox. The Starke County Chamber of Commerce Meet the Candidates night starts at 6 p.m. Executive Director Debbie Mix hopes for a good turnout. She notes the event is meet and greet, not a debate.

“Every candidate will have the opportunity to introduce themselves and give their take on what they’d like to bring to the office,” Mix said. “They’ll get four minutes to speak. We have a timekeeper that will be doing that, and then we’ll go to the next office. Totally nonpartisan. Nobody is looking to promote one office or the other.”

Mix adds it’s important for people to learn about the candidates seeking to represent them. She said voters in a small community make their decisions based more on personality than party affiliation. She says the nonpartisan forum will give voters a chance to get to know the candidates so they can make an educated decision. The doors will open at 5:30 and the formal program should last about two hours.
