Workers’ compensation insurance premiums for Starke County employees have spiked for the coming year. The annual increase of nearly $60,000 is blamed on the county’s prior claims history. Premiums are determined based on three years worth of data.
Starke County officials recently implemented workplace safety training and established a safety committee. Claims have dropped as a result, but that data will not be considered until the policy comes up for renewal next year. As a result, the county’s premium for 2015 will be $236,238.
