A man wanted on several felony and misdemeanor charges was taken into custody on Wednesday afternoon, but he didn’t go willingly.
Officers active in the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Division arrived at a home in the 10,000 West block of Division Road near Westville in search of 47-year-old Bernard Shaw. He was wanted on 11 outstanding warrants on various charges including domestic battery, failure to return to lawful detention, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and intimidation.
Deputies entered the residence and found Shaw hiding in a room. Shaw did not comply with the command of officers to surrender into custody. As officers attempted to secure Shaw in handcuffs, Shaw allegedly kicked an officer and struck the officer in the face and chest.
While transporting Shaw to the LaPorte County Jail, Shaw allegedly threatened the deputies and their families with bodily harm. He continued to be verbally abusive during transportation, according to a news release.
In addition to the warrants, Shaw was additionally charged with a misdemeanor count of resisting law enforcement and felony charges of battery of a police officer and intimidation of a law enforcement officer. He is being held in the LaPorte County Jail with no bond.
