Knox city officials recently met with the Green 3 to put together ideas for a comprehensive plan for the city. A tour was taken of the city where a list of needs was assembled.
The downtown area was highlighted as a possible revitalization area. Those in attendance believe that the downtown area needs updated with brighter lighting and greater ambiance. Support for existing services, historic preservation, housing needs and economic development were all included as ideas.
An incentive plan was suggested to get property owners to redevelop or improve on their properties. Blight is also an issue and it was a point to address that along with feelings of apathy and neglect.
The group pointed out the city’s assets which include the parks, community center, rural living and leadership in the community.
The city also wants to make the most of TIF monies that could be used to improve the downtown area. Infrastructure investment and city hall upkeep were also areas of focus.
It was a consensus that changes coming will surround the vision of leaders. A clean, safe and practical area in which to live is envisioned along with having trustworthy, stable services available of which to be proud.
Those needs will be prioritized in a future meeting.
