The Knox City Council will meet tonight where the members will continue in a discussion with the usage of the Nancy J. Dembowski Community Center in Knox by area churches.
At the last city council meeting, the members discussed drafting a memorandum of understanding for Deb McIntire and the churches to sign to make sure that all entities are on the same page regarding the intention and use of the building. That document is expected to be presented tonight. All churches involved would need to provide a certificate of insurance to the city.
McIntire requested the use of the community center without the rental fee to serve free meals to all in the community. Church members would prepare and serve all of the meals at the community center and do all of the clean up. All of the food would be donated.
The council approved a motion to allow McIntire to get things started. The council and the city attorney will go over all paperwork before the first meal is served. The first meal is anticipated to be served in January.
The council will also discuss a dumpster ordinance and adopt the 2015 budget.
The Knox City Council meeting is tonight at 7 p.m. CT in Knox City Hall.
