The Washington Township School will be demolished Tuesday. Officials told WKVI News that the contractor has delayed the project by one day.
The building has been a safety issue in the area and could not be rehabilitated at a reasonable cost.
A volunteer contractor from Monterey will bring down the longtime fixture at the intersection of Division Road and State Road 23 in Starke County.
For safety reasons, members of the Washington Township Board and the Washington Township Trustee will close the park to the public at that location until the demolition and cleanup are complete. Availability of brick will be determined after demolition begins and it will be decided at that time if the bricks or other materials can be salvaged.
When the cleanup is finished, the Washington Township Board members will be working to improve that space.
Any questions about the demolition process should be forwarded to the Washington Township Board or to the Washington Township Trustee.
