Starke County will be able to upgrade the radios used by police departments, firefighters and other emergency responders without a cost to the county thanks to a grant from the state.
Emergency Management Agency Director Ted Bombagetti told the county commissioners this week the 2014 State Homeland Security Program Grant in the amount of $18,760 will cover the entire cost to upgrade to P25 standards. The radio upgrade is necessary in order to ensure agencies across the country can talk to one another via portable radio in the event of a widespread emergency.
