An overturned semi-tractor trailer left the roadway on Wednesday afternoon according to the Starke County Sheriff’s Department.
Starke County Police arrived on scene on US 30, just east of 500 E. after receiving the call around 2:30 yesterday afternoon. Officers found the single tractor-trailer semi was eastbound on U.S. 30 when it left the roadway on south shoulder.
The name of the driver is not being released. He was extricated from the wreckage and transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital by ambulance for additional medical treatment. His condition is listed as critical.
Earlier in the afternoon, Starke County Police responded to a separate incident where a semi carrying scrap metal left the roadway, crossed the median and crossed back before entering the ditch on the South Side of US 30 east of 700 East. The driver of that vehicle said he fell asleep, according to a press release.
Both crashes are still under investigation.
