The Starke County Commissioners should have a better idea how much repairs to the courthouse will cost after their meeting tonight. They’ve asked for quotes on tuckpointing the brick in order to set a budget for the work. Fixing the masonry is one of several repairs that need to be made to the historic structure. Wiring needs to be upgraded, and the roof needs to be fixed as well.
The commissioners will also discuss the EMS department “special event fee” that was set at their last meeting. They set a $500 charge for a dedicated, staffed ambulance at an event like the recent high school rodeo that took place in Grovertown. Also on the agenda is discussion of candidates for the soon-to-be vacant courthouse custodian position and an update on the county auction. The commissioners meeting starts at 6 p.m. CDT at the annex building.
The county council also meets this evening at 5:30. Their agenda includes proposed amendments to the 2015 salary ordinance.
