The joint governing bodies in Pulaski County will be receiving information from a representative from the Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP) from Purdue University about a Local Option Highway User Tax or LOHUT. A LOHUT includes a vehicle excise tax and a wheel tax. It is included in the vehicle registration payment at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
Local governments will not be seeing an increase in funding for local roads. In fact, it has flatlined. Officials are seeking ways to bring more money into the county to assist with road improvements, and LOHUT is an option.
The Marshall County Commissioners recently heard the same presentation and approved a recommendation of support to their county council.
The presentation will be given to the Pulaski County Council on Monday, May 11. It is anticipated to start around 7:40 p.m. ET. The meeting is open to the public and will be held in the commissioners room on the second floor of the Pulaski County Courthouse. No decision will be made at this meeting as it is for information only.
