A recital containing a bit of patriotic flair will be held July 4th in Culver.
Culver Military Academies Organist John Gouwens will be presenting the second carillon recital in the summer series. The instrument will be on the tower of Memorial Chapel on the Culver Academies campus.
A carillon is a tower, typically containing dozens of bells, to create musical numbers. The carillon in Culver consists of 51 bells, each of which was crafted in England.
Gouwens will play selected music, including: the Star Spangled Banner; and America, the Beautiful. Several other numbers composed for the carillon by Americans will also be played.
The recital will take place July 4th at 4:00 p.m. EDT.
