The Knox School Board may soon be moving in a different direction.
During Monday’s School Board meeting, members approved giving Superintendent A.J. Gappa a written notice of non-renewal. That means his time with the district could be coming to an end.
According to members of the school board, Gappa’s contract with the school district was slated to come to an end on July 1st, 2016. The terms of the contract, however, allow for an extension of one year if the board fails to provide notice. That means the Superintendent’s time with the district will likely end in July of 2018.
Board members said they want to ensure they’re getting the most they can out of budgets as well as the position.
There is no intention to buyout Gappa’s contract at this time, according to board members.
The extension of the original agreement will allow the Knox School Corporation time to begin a search process and eventually find a replacement.
