Starke County Bicentennial Committee Discusses Torch Relay Route

Indiana BicentennialA preliminary route for the 2016 Indiana Bicentennial Torch to travel thru Starke County late afternoon and evening October 7, 2016, was the main topic of discussion of the Starke County Indiana Bicentennial Committee this week.

The torch will be primarily transported by people, passing the flame from torch bearer to to torchbearer. The local relay may also use other modes of conveyance that are symbolic of the history and heritage of Starke County, including watercraft, antique vehicles and railroad.

Local torchbearers will be chosen from nominations by Starke County citizens. Nomination forms and rules are available now at all Starke County libraries. Nominees should be those with a Starke County connection who have demonstrated exceptional public service, achievement, acts or heroism and/or volunteer service to their neighborhood or community. A committee will make the final selection of 15 or more carriers.

Starke County Councilman David Pearman is the Starke County Coordinator of events. He can be reached via email at starkecouncild3@aol.com
