The month of July is coming to a close and we all know what that means, the start of school season is upon us. Some students are returning to school as early as the first week of August. The start of the school year can be just as stressful for parents as it is for kids. There are so many things to attend to, registration, breaking summer sleeping habits, obtaining supplies and then of course, there are the required inoculations and physicals. Luckily, HealthLinc is offering an easy way to check some of those things off your to-do-list while simultaneously having a fun time with the whole family.
In conjunction with the grand opening of their new office building and the 2015 National Health Center Week, HealthLinc is hosting an event at their facility in Knox. On Friday from 3 until 6 pm you can enjoy snacks, games, vendors, prizes, a photo booth and balloon art. WKVI will also be there hosting a live remote. About 200 backpacks will be available filled with school supplies and some of the vendors will also be providing supplies. Any child who goes through and has every vendor fill out their ‘bingo card’ and submits it will be entered for a chance to win a free bike.
Aside from the fun activities provided, HealthLinc professionals will also be offering some helpful medical procedures on sight, such as free adult screenings, no-cost back-to-school physicals and immunizations for the uninsured.
Angie Garner with HealthLinc explained that there have been some adjustments made to required shots for students, “There are quite a few vaccines that required for students now, and some of the changes are that grades 6 through 11 now need to have two varicellas, so that’s your chicken pox vaccine and their meningococcal and another additional T-Dap, that is the tetanus diphtheria, your whooping cough vaccine.”
HealthLinc is still located behind the IU Starke Hospital but has moved to a new office space. Though they have already been operating out of suite 106, they decided to schedule the grand opening ceremony to take place during tomorrow’s festivities.
