Firefighters continued to battle flames on Wednesday afternoon that resulted from a morning fire in Winamac.
The Winamac Eagles Post #2580, located in the 600 block of West 11th Street, caught fire around 8:25 a.m. EDT. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation, but three State Fire Marshal’s were called to the scene to investigate.
The Winamac Volunteer Fire Department, along with Star City, Monterey, Bass Lake, Knox, and Francesville have been assisting at the scene to control the flames.
Despite being a popular event location, no injuries were reported in the Wednesday incident. The structure, however, was not so lucky, being described as a total loss.
Crews are working to remove the roof from the building site to be able to get inside and control hotspots in addition to continuing their investigation.
According to the Winamac Eagles’ social media pages, neighboring organizations are already offering a helping hand.
