A flood warning is in effect for most of the WKVI listening area for the next few hours. Locations experiencing flooding include Knox, North Judson, Hamlet, Winamac, Culver, Medaryville, Francesville, Plymouth, Koontz Lake, LaCrosse and Wanatah. The ground is already saturated as a result of the wettest June on record. As a result, the water has nowhere to go.
Most water-related deaths occur in automobiles when people try to drive through standing water. Looks can be deceiving, as roadways may be washed out underneath. Just one foot of flowing water is enough to sweep a vehicle off the road. Heed the advice of experts, and turn around don’t drown. Residents of flood-prone areas are urged to move to higher ground.
The flood warning is set to expire at 8 a.m. EDT/7 a.m. CDT. However, a flood watch is also in effect for the affected areas. A watch means conditions are favorable for flooding to occur.
