The crowd of area residents that gathered for the Grand Opening of the “James R. Hardesty Hamlet Davis Township Volunteer Fire Station and Community Center” Sunday afternoon at the new building was both pleased and proud.
Davis Township Trustee Robin Lattimer said it’s been a long project with many, many people helping. She added local officials are very grateful for all of the help and said the dedication was “probably one of the proudest days” of her life.
Hamlet Board President, David Kesvormas, said that there is “nothing greater than seeing the community support of its new facility. The Town of Hamlet and surrounding Davis Township have needed it for some time.” Kesvormas said the new building gives the department room to grow. He said the department will no longer have to order custom built trucks to fit in the old building.
The old firehouse, built in 1953, was and remodeled to its current state in 1980. The town will use the old facility to store street and police departments equipment.
