Officials with the Town of North Judson say they have recently checked on the mowing scheduled at Highland Cemetery following reports of volunteers maintaining family grave sites.
The Town currently contracts with Scherf’s Lawn Service to help maintain the grounds at the cemetery.
According to the contract, the company is expected to provide eight grass trims throughout the season. Any additional mowing services must first be approved by the North Judson Town Council.
Clerk-Treasurer Donna Henry says they have received phone calls about the appearance of the grounds. She says that if several calls are received by the Town that she passes word along to the Council.
Henry says she messaged the service provider on Monday, but at the time this article was published, had not received information about when the next mowing period would take place.
Volunteers are allowed to bring their own equipment to help maintain grave plots which belong to them. Henry advises that the rules of Highland Cemetery should be followed when volunteering time for maintenance.
