An annual event will have a new atmosphere this weekend in Knox.

The Starke County Historical Society will be hosting its ice cream social – which takes place the first Sunday in July.

The event typically invites the public to view various exhibits and displays at the museum and find out more about the work being conducted. This year, however, the public is invited to tour the Historical Society’s new museum location.

Pulaski County Fair Shuffles Weekend Event Locations

 
 

A few popular events at the Pulaski County Fair will take place in alternate locations this weekend in order to get the fairgrounds ready for next weekend’s influx of visitors. Water is finally receding at the Winamac Town Park, where events will take place Monday through Thursday.

All pre-judging was done offsite, and exhibits will be brought to the fairgrounds on Sunday. Meanwhile, open class entries will be accepted at the Pulaski County Highway Garage on U.S. 35 just north of Winamac from 5 until 7 p.m. today and from 8:30 until 11 tomorrow morning. $500 Grant Awarded to Bella Vita

The local pregnancy resource center, Bella Vita, was graciously awarded a grant of $500 yesterday. Thursday afternoon representatives from the Starke County Community Foundation, Director of Development Sarah Origer and their intern Rachel Lenig as well as the Northern Indiana Community Foundation Executive Director Jay Albert presented the money to Bella Vita representatives, Center Director Sarah Dedloff and Executive Director Lorie Reading. IDHS Offers Fireworks Safety Tips

  
 

The Indiana Department of Homeland has developed a few tips to ensure safety during Independence Day celebrations.

IDHS says fireworks can be purchased by persons 18 years of age or older. To ensure safety, however, it’s considered best to buy the items at licensed dealer locations. State Fire Marshal Jim Greeson says despite safety precautions, structure fires can certainly be started by their misuse.

Declare Your Independence From Uncertainty and Accidents While Traveling this Holiday Weekend

 

The Indiana Department of Transportation has added travel times to seven dynamic roadside signs around the state just in time for the holiday weekend. The time estimates are based on information gathered from road sensors that measure a variety of factors, including average vehicle speed and traffic volumes. Majority of Pulaski County Fair Activities to Continue at Fairgrounds

 The Pulaski County Fair will go on as scheduled next week at the fairgrounds in Winamac. They are located at the back of the town park, which is still closed due to Tippecanoe River flooding. Purdue Extension Pulaski County Director Natalie Federer says a few schedule revisions were made to accommodate weekend activities. Saturday’s achievement program and fashion revue have been moved to the Winamac Nazarene Church. The town park is due to reopen at 2 p.m. on Sunday, so animals will be brought in that afternoon in groups staggered by species.

Winamac Fireworks Moved From Town Park to School

 
 

Residents of Winamac will be traveling to a new location to view this year’s fireworks show.

The July 4th celebration is organized through matched donations and typically hosted in the Winamac Town Park. Due to flooding that is affecting the grounds, the fireworks show will now be held at the school in Winamac on the practice fields.

Recent River Flooding Affects Local Businesses

Winamac businesses Tippe-Canoe Rentals as well as Riverside Rentals haven’t been able to let anyone out on the rivers for weeks due to the high levels.
