The Indiana Department of Transportation is hosting a drive this week and it surprisingly has nothing to do with cars. This particular event is the result of the INDOT Northwest Disrict teaming up with the American Red Cross for their 10th annual blood drive. On Wednesday, July 8 from 10 am until 3 pm (CST) citizens can come donate blood at the LaPorte District Office, located at 315 East Boyd Blvd.
Summertime is tough on the American Red Cross. Not as many people donate because there aren’t as many drives happening due to the fact that school is no longer in session and people are traveling. Summer drives like this one INDOT is hosting help ensure that a blood shortage does not occur. People need to remember that sickness does not stop during the summer season, there are still those desperately in need of your blood and platelet donations.
The donation process, which includes registration, a mini-physical and the donation, takes approximately 45 minutes. The actual donation part takes less than 10 minutes and each donation can save as many as three lives. In order to give, donors must be at least 17 years old, in good health and weigh at least 110 pounds. A valid form of identification must be presented to donate blood.
Please call (219) 362-6125 or email sbartos@indot.in.gov to schedule a time to donate or for more information about the event.
